It may be alluring to hold onto high-value cards, particularly if they have the ability to form melds, but it's important to determine whether they are actually advancing your strategy or just taking up room in your hand. If you are holding onto several high-slats and slotsvalue cards without any obvious way to merge them, it might be time to think about getting rid of them in favor of lower-value cards that might make it easier for you to form runs or sets. On the other hand, there are times when folding—basically, giving up on some cards—can be beneficial. If you have a number of unmelded cards that are unlikely to improve your hand and you see that an opponent is almost out, it might be better to discard them right away rather than risk accruing points at the end of the round.
