Before discarding one card from their hand, each player starts their turn by drawing a card from the discard pile or the stockpile. The game goes on until a player discards their last card after successfully combining aljack and the beanstalk slotsl of their cards into combinations that are allowed. Players must carefully consider which cards to keep & which to discard during gameplay, which requires strategic decision-making. A player may also "knock" if they think they have made legitimate combinations with the fewest possible unmatched cards in their hand. In addition to managing their own hands, players must assess their opponents' hands, which adds another level of strategy.
